Chesterfield v Bromley – Preview

Following a dip in form which has only seen one National League win in four games, Bromley travel up to Chesterfield on Tuesday night  looking to turn things around against a team who haven’t won a league game in quite some time.

The Ravens suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, which saw them slip to sixteenth in the table four points off the bottom four. Barnet loanee Jack Barham made his debut and he along with Marc-Anthony Okoye’s performance in midfield were two of the few bright notes from a frustrating afternoon for the Bromley support and manager Neil Smith, a performance he described as unacceptable.

Chesterfield, in their first season since relegation from the Football League, have found life tough under manager Martin Allen and currently sit in twentieth place, having gone 18 league games without a win. On Saturday they drew 1-1 away to Eastleigh which took them to 19 points from 21 games. Although The Spireites haven’t won in the league since August, they have found success in the FA Cup beating AFC Fylde and Billericay Town on the way to the second round and haven’t lost in eleven competitive matches, drawing nine.

Allen appeared to have assembled a squad more than capable of challenging for promotion back at the first time of asking, including former Celtic & WBA striker Marc-Antione Fortune and  but as yet it hasn’t proved to be the case.

This will be The Ravens first visit to Chesterfield and despite being midweek they are taking up a good away support with an independent supporters coach organised for the match. With both teams looking to pick up three points, but also not wanting to lose, this should be a tight game which could shape the December ahead of the break for the FA Cup fixtures next weekend.
