Chesterfield v Bromley preview

Following Tuesday night’s dramatic 4-3 win at Woking, Bromley now travel to face in form Chesterfield for their next National League fixture on Saturday lunchtime.

The Ravens are still unbeaten under new manager Andy Woodman drawing their first two and then winning the two most recent matches, which has taken Bromley up to ninth in the table within a point of the play off places, with nine games to go on 49 points from 33 National League matches.

The Woking game saw Bromley take the lead after only three minutes via Jack Bridge before falling behind twice, Michael Cheek and James Alabi then equalising before an own goal from a Liam Vincent cross secured the three points with two minutes left.

Billy Bingham, Jack Holland & Byron Webster all missed the game through injury while Luke Coulson was suspended and they also lost Taylor Maloney to a hamstring injury in the second half as Bromley’s bad luck in that department continued.

With this in mind Woodman brought in young defender Alex Michell on loan from Millwall for the rest of the season on Thursday.

Chesterfield are also on a good unbeaten run of six games, which has taken them up to fifth with 52 points from 31 matches. On Tuesday night they drew 0-0 at home to Boreham Wood, which ended a winning streak of five consecutive games, but still sees them in a healthy position under manager James Rowe.

The Ravens boast the National League’s top scorer in Michael Cheek who has 20 so far this campaign, while The Spirerites have two top scorers in Akwasi Asante on 10 and Tom Denton on 9.

The teams are yet to meet this season, with the reverse fixture cancelled in January due to Covid cases in the Chesterfield squad, this has now been re-scheduled for Tuesday 27th April.

Last season Bromley completed the double over The Spirerites winning both games 2-1 before the early curtailment of the campaign.

The match kicks off at 12:30pm and will be an intriguing encounter that could go a long way in shaping what the rest of the season looks like for Bromley as they look to break into the top seven, while Woodman delves into his squad and the loan market to cover the injuries and suspensions and looks to find a formula to keep the winning run going.

The game takes place behind closed doors due to current Covid 19 restrictions, but supporters can purchase the live stream of the action via the Chesterfield FC official website for £10.
