Cheltenham Town 1-2 Bromley

Bromley’s superb start to the season continued with a 2-1 away win at Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night. Goals from Omar Sowunmi in the first half and a second half Michael Cheek penalty were enough to secure all three points for Andy Woodman’s men.

The Ravens started on the front foot with Mitchel Pinnock & Marcus Ifill again the creators with a free kick routine before crossing for Cheek whose header was brilliantly tipped over by Joe Day in the Cheltenham goal.

Only minutes later though it was Pinnock again who crossed from the right after combining Ashley Charles at a throw in and Sowunmi slid in at the back post to convert from close range to make it 1-0.

Cheltenham who were without a single goal or point so far this campaign did have some decent spells, Jack Bickerstaff have a free kick cleared off the line by Ifill.

The second half saw Cheltenham have more of the ball, but Bromley went close when Ifill hit the bar from a Pinnock cross.

The Ravens went 2-0 up on 71 minutes when Sowunmi was brought down in the box at a set piece and referee Robert Massey-Ellis awarded The Ravens a penalty, which Cheek dispatched, blasting the ball down the middle past Day and breaking the club’s post Amateur era goal scoring record with 133 strike for the club.

The Robins pulled one back soon after, scoring their first goal of the League Two season when Josh Martin unleashed an unstoppable effort from just outside the box to make it 2-1.

Cheek then had an effort bravely saved by Day at the striker’s feet, before a late spell of pressure by the home side saw Bromley hold out and pick up their second win of the League Two season taking Andy Woodman’s side up to seventh in the table.

Bromley now travel to Notts County on Saturday looking to keep their unbeaten run going.
