Chatham Town v Welling United preview

This evening, Chatham Town entertain Welling United in the Kent Senior Cup Semi Final.

There have been very different campaigns for the two teams. On Saturday, the Chats were crowned as champions of the Isthmian League South East to complete back-to-back promotions.

Meanwhile, Welling have been consolidating in the Vanarama National League South after coming close to relegation twelve months earlier.

However, the two teams will put their league activites behind them for the one-off knock-out match.

Chatham’s run started with a visit to Ashford United where they drew two-two before winning six-five on penalties.

They then hosted Dover Athletic and defeated them two-nil before again needing penalties to get past Corinthians. After a one-one draw they won the shoot-out five-three.

Warren Feeney’s Wings were given a bye in the first round before they also required spot-kicks after a two-two draw with Sittingbourne. They then prevailed five-four from twelve yards.

Their quarter final was an all National League South match at champions-to-be Ebbsfleet United. In that match they upset the odds with a three-two victory.

The victors will play the winners of the Thanet derby between Margate and Ramsgate at Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium on Wednesday 3rd May.
