Chatham Town 6-3 Billericay Town

The last two games at the Bauvill stadium have produced no less than 18 goals and Chatham Town have scored 13 of them. They added six this afternoon in their victory over Billericay Town.

If anyone was in any doubt before today, the promotion push is definitely alive and kicking for Chatham Town, as they moved 16 points ahead of the team in the last play-off place.

The game started with Billericay on the charge and in the fifth minute they took the lead when Sydney Ibie on the left wing crossed to the back post and found Adam Leathers who from ten yards shot past Mitchell Beeney.

This shook Chatham up and they came charging back, in the tenth minute a corner into the area saw Rowan Libard side-foot his shot over the bar, then two minutes later came the equaliser and what a goal it was.

A free kick 32 yards out saw Jack Evans step up and his beautiful shot beat Dan Wilks all ends up, it was one hell of a goal to score on his 150th appearance for Chatham.

Chatham were now in control and in the 25th minute they went ahead when Jamie Yila on the left cut in, laid the ball at Kareem Isiaka’s feet and he shot home at the second attempt from five yards.

Three minutes later it was three when Yila put Isiaka through on goal and from 15 yards shot home.

In the 32nd minute it nearly became four when Yila on the left in the area passed to Isiaka who from six yards saw his goal bound shot hit his own player Libard and Billericay cleared their lines.

Just three minutes later it was four when an Evans corner was headed on and Libard at the back post headed home.

Two minutes later in a rare attack Alfie Cerulli on the edge of the area saw his shot go over the bar. Chatham could have had their fifth in the 38th minute when Liburd was put through, his shot was saved by Wilks but came out to Isiaka in the area, he appeared to be fouled in the area but the Referee decided differently.

Then in the 42nd minute Billericay got their second when a Bradley Stevenson free kick from the right into the area found Frankie Merrifield who headed in from ten yards.

The second half started with Chatham on the front foot and in the 48th minute they scored their fifth when another Evans free kick into the area found Isiaka whose flicked header hit the back of the net for his hat trick.

In the 54th minute again in a rare attack Merrifield was put through, from 15 yards his shot was saved by Beeney.

Seven minutes later another chance went Chatham’s way and what a goal this would have been as Ashley Nzala running from half way laid the ball into the path of Evans, his first time effort on the run went just past the post.

In the 64th minute Chatham scored their sixth when Yila on the left went into area and was brought down by George Wind, the referee pointed to the penalty spot, up stepped Yila and he hit it straight down the middle.

Chatham were now in total control and as much as they tried they could not get that seventh and then Billericay got their third goal of the game when Ibie on the left cut in and his shot beat Beeney by the near post.

The final whistle went and the huge crowd erupted with joy as Chatham continued their push for promotion.
