Chatham Town 5-1 Camberley Town

Chatham Town eased into Monday’s First Round draw of the Buildbase FA Vase with a comfortable win over Camberley Town from the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League Premier Division.

Skipper Paul Vines scored twice either time of half time and further goals from defender Tyler McDonagh, the impressive Jon Pilbeam and substitute Louis Clarke ensured the victory was as comfortable and comprehensive as it sounded.

It didn’t take the SCEFL leaders long to stamp their authority on the game as after seven minutes, Jason Thompson’s corner found McDonagh who brilliantly hooked the ball into the net.  Such was the Chats dominance, Camberley’s equaliser was very much against the run of play as Duff cut the ball back for Dansie, who delivered the ideal cross for Cousins at the far post, and the Camberley striker found the bottom corner.

The home side though were finally back in front just before the break as skipper Vines prodded home his ninth goal of the season but only Jason Thompson will know why they weren’t sooner!  An amazing run had “goal” written all over it, but at the vital second Thompson delayed allowing a defender to desperately hack to safety!

Richard Avery then should have put the home side back in front but shot wide from a corner before Vines eventually showed his colleagues how it should be done – well he put the ball in the net anyway, although even Vines will admit to being a touch fortunate as her was quickest to react to the keeper’s parrying of his own header – sticking out a foot and the ball almost apologetically crossed the line!

The second half proved to be how many for the home side as Camberley really struggled to get into the game.  Vines made it 3-1 just past the hour after some great work from Pilbeam – great play from Russell Bedford and Thompson with Pilbeam’s through ball.

Pilbeam himself made it four with a super drive that flew into the bottom corner before Vines turned provider for sub Clarke who completed the route and the scoring with a diving header meeting the cross.
