Chatham Town 4-0 Wingate & Finchley

Chatham Town got back to winning ways after easing to victory over Wingate & Finchley this afternoon and in doing so maintained their play-off spot.

The game was slow to start but Chatham were the better team and in the 11th minute Jordi Robins saw his twenty-yard shot go whizzing past the post.

Then six minutes later they took the lead when Robins put Sam Sene-Richardson through, and he got to the by-line before his low cross found Stanley Oldfield and from three yards his mishit shot beat Charlie Grainger and was over the line according to the assistant even though it was hacked away.

Chatham were now in total control and in the 22nd minute Sene-Richardson saw his twenty-yard shot saved by Grainger, two minutes later a long ball forward headed forward found Sene-Richardson’s shot from twenty yards was saved.

In the 27th minute Chatham doubled their lead when Tope Fadahunsi in the centre of the pitch saw his through ball clip a defender’s heel putting Oliver Hobden in and from six yards on the angle, he shot past Grainger.

The rest of the half saw Chatham have most of the possession but just lacked the killer touch but two nil at half time was just what the doctor ordered.

The second half saw Chatham still in charge and in the 49th minute Oldfield turned and shot in one go forcing Grainger to save at the second attempt.

In the 53rd minute it was three when a dreadful mistake on the edge of the area saw Kian Moynes pick up the loose ball and go into the area before curling his shot past Grainger. In the 57th minute Wingate had their first shot of the game when Ayyuba Jambang got to the by-line and his cross into the six-yard box found Ruben Antwi, but his shot went wide.

In the 63rd minute Sene-Richardson driving forward went into the area and was fouled and a penalty was given; up stepped Oldfield and he shot into the middle-left hand side beating Grainger.

In the 68th minute it could have been five when Fadahunsi in the area saw his shot deflect over the bar. The rest of the half was all Chatham as they continued to boss the game.

The next two games will determine the season and playing relegated Potters Bar Town next could be pivotal but then a second chance with Lewes at home their last game but hopefully not the last of the season.
