Chatham Town 2-2 Carshalton Athletic
Chatham Town 2-2 Carshalton Athletic

Chatham Town showed their resilience by coming from behind from Carshalton Athletic to take a share of the spoils and extend their unbeaten run to five games.

The game started slowly as second versus third in the league saw both sides giving the ball away, the first half chance came in the 10th minute when a Jack Evans free kick into the area found Tommy Fagg, his header goal wards was deflected away for a corner.

Carshalton had their first half chance six minutes later when Mark Marshall saw his 20-yard effort go past the post. Chatham had the chance to go in front when an Evans corner to the near post was met by Seidou Sanogo but his header went over the bar.

Then one of the goals of the season came in the 23rd minute when the ball in the Chatham half was knocked forward for Evans who from 45 yards saw his lobbed shot go over Daniel O’Dononan (another for the Evans collection).

This seemed to knock Carshalton into action as they equalised five minutes later when Abdul Sankoh was fouled in the penalty area and a penalty was awarded, Bunmi Babajide stepped up shuffled forward and shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

In the 38th minute Ben Allen saw his 25-yard free kick pushed around the post by O’Donovan for a corner, from the resulting corner it was flicked on for Ashley Nzala on the back post and his header from three yards was again pushed around the post.

Two minutes later and Carshalton had taken a deserved lead when a corner into the area saw Ben Bridle-Card come out to punch it but missed it and it was bundled in by Lexus Beeden.

The last chance of the half came in the 44th minute when Evans saw his 25-yard free kick saved by O’Donovan.

The second half took a while to get going as Chatham pushed for an equaliser while Carshalton were happy enough to keep the lead. In the 54th minute a free kick into the area saw it half cleared to Alex Brefo and his 15-yard shot went past the post.

Seven minutes later Brefo had another chance when a corner to the near post was headed wide by him. In the 71st minute Allen saw his 20-yard shot palmed away by O’Donovan.

Then in the 87th minute Kris Campbell saw his header from six yards pushed over the bar then a minute later Chatham equalised when a corner to the back post saw Campbell’s header come back of the post for Ollie Hobden to head goal wards but it was cleared off the line but only to Nzala whose scissor kick went into the net.

In the dying minutes Chatham nearly got a winner when another corner to the back post saw Nzala stretching for it, his shot hit the post. If that had gone in it would have been daylight robbery as this seemed to be a point gained rather than two points lost which keeps them in second place.
