Chatham Town 2-1 Dulwich Hamlet
Chatham Town 2-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Chatham Town eventually got the three points with a hard-earned victory over Dulwich Hamlet although they were not at their best which is a sign of a good team.

The game was not at a classic but in front of a large crowd the game grew, and all the Chatham supporters would have been biting their nails but in the end, they got the victory to consolidate their second place in the league.

The game started with Chatham on the front foot and in the 4th minute Jamie Yila in the area twisting and turning saw his shot from an acute angle saved by Will Lakin.

Dulwich in a rare attack had their first half chance in the 14th minute when Luke Wanadio on the right cut inside, let fly from 20 yards seeing it go just past the post.

Eight minutes later Dulwich nearly took a surprise lead when a free kick into the area saw Manny Parry head just past the post from six yards.

In the 22nd minute a ball into the area arrived at the back post for Chris Dickson but his shot went well over the bar. Five minutes later Chatham could or should have taken the lead when Yila on the right crossed to the back post for Harvey Broad who from three yards out volleyed over the bar.

Dulwich had another half chance in the 38th minute when a ball into the area found Adrian Clifton who turned and shot forcing Ben Bridle-Card to save. Half time arrived and this was a game that needed a goal to excite the crowd.

The second half started with Chatham having the first chance when Dickson latched onto a loose ball in the area, his shot from an acute angle saw his shot tipped around the post by Lakin.

Dulwich quietened the crowd when in the 51st minute they took the lead, a corner into the near post was powerfully headed in by Manny Parry.

Chatham equalised in the 59th minute when Dickson latched onto a ball in the area, went round Lakin and slotted into the net.  In the 68th minute Lakin cleared but only to Jack Evans who from 30 yards had his volley tipped around the post by Lakin.

Two minutes later Bridle-Card kicked it long for Ash Nzala to get onto and from 18 yards his shot was saved by Lakin. Chatham were huffing and puffing to get a winner, in the 90th minute they got it when a free kick into the area was half cleared to Broad on the edge of the area saw his shot arrive at Reece Butler’s feet and he diverted it into the net from three yards.

The game went on for another eight minutes with Dulwich having a couple of free kicks on the edge of the area which for Chatham’s sake went over the bar. The final whistle went and the majority of the crowd were relieved and pleased to take all glad three points.
