Chatham Town 7-1 Lordswood
Chatham Town 7-1 Lordswood

Chatham Town have done the double over local rivals Lordswood with an aggregate of 12-2 and today’s performance was men against boys, it was also attack against defence as Lordswood did not have much of the ball and Chatham had numerous chances to make it more embarrassing for Lordswood.

The game started with Chatham on the front foot and in the 5th minute they took the lead when Ike Orji on the right got to the by-line and then laid the ball into the path of Jack Evans who from 6 yards stroked the ball home, five minutes later Evans scored again when he received the ball 25 yards out and with the outside of his boot the ball beat George Bentley to score a superb goal.

Chatham were now in total control and in the 14th minute Orji on the right passed inside for Dan Bradshaw but this time his shot went over the bar.

Evans was enjoying the freedom of the park and in the 20th minute on the edge of the area his shot went just over the bar, a minute later Bradshaw was put through on the left wing and he latched onto it and then flicked it forward for Evans who saw his shot from 15 yards go wide.

In the 25th minute Evans and Bradshaw combined leaving Bradshaw to shoot but Bentley saved it. Another chance came in the 30th minute when that man Orji went down the right and then laid the ball into the path of Andy Pugh and his shot was blocked by the defender.

In the 33rd minute Chatham scored their third when Orji running down the right was put through by Ryan Hayes and his low cross was knocked in by Bradshaw.

One more chance came before half time when in the 38th minute a Hayes cross from the right found Reece Butler and his header went over the bar.

Half time arrived and both Managers would have a lot to say, Chats to carry on like they had been doing while Lordswood damage limitation.

The second half took a while to get going and then in the 56th minute Evans looking for his hat trick saw his 25 yard shot pushed away by Bentley then two minutes later they got their 4th when a long ball forward saw Bradshaw latch on to it and go into the area and his shot from 12 yards went in via the post.

Chances were now coming and in the 62nd minute Evans again latched onto a clearance and from 18 yards his shot was saved.

Another goal came in the 65th minute when Fikayo Ajayi running forward passed forward into path of Pugh who from 12 yards shot home.

In the 72nd minute it was six when a long diagonal ball found Pugh who shot home from 15 yards.

In the 83rd minute Lordswood grabbed a consolation goal when Tom Carter picked up a loose pass from the Chatham defence ran forward and from 20 yards despite Andy Walker getting a hand to it he could not stop it going in.

A minute later it was nearly 7 when another diagonal ball found Matt Bodkin on the left and he went into the area and his shot was cleared of the line but 4 minutes later it was seven when Bodkin on the left crossed to the far post where it was headed back across the 6 yard box for Butler to head home.

In the 1st minute of added on time Bentley made a great save to avoid the 8th being scored.

The final whistle went and Chatham continue their mission of promotion with a seven star performance while Lordswood will have to back to the drawing board.
