Chatham Town 0-0 Fisher
Chatham Town 0-0 Fisher

It wasn’t meant to be for Chatham’s new manager Scott Lindsey as his team had to put up with a 0-0 draw against Fisher on Saturday afternoon.

After an eventful first half with plenty of chances, both teams just couldn’t find the back of the net. Fisher then finally put the ball in the back of the net thanks to Wale Odedoyin but it was ruled out due to handball!

Chatham kicked the game off, but Fisher grabbed the first chance of the game on the 3rd minute. Billy Brown managed to weave his way across the 3G pitch which then led to him taking a shot which only just flew over the bar. This then provoked Chatham to make an instant response on the 4th minute. Matt Bodkin tried to float one over Charlie Payne in goal but just like Fisher’s effort before, it floated over the bar.

Some fancy footwork from Jacob Katonia opened a chance for Fisher on the 10th minute. Katonia took on the shot but it led to a comfortable save for Jordan Carey. Chatham were quick to respond again with a chance coming from Michael Hagan. Hagan whipped the ball into the box towards captain Paul Vines, but the chance was easily cut out on the 16th minute.

10 minutes later, Jack Evans looked to break the deadlock with a long-range effort, but it whistled past the Fisher goal. Fisher responded with an extremely close chance when Adebola Oluwo headed the ball just past the post on the 30th minute.

The game started to become end to end when Chatham almost took the lead on the 34th minute but Jon Pilbeam’s shot was deflected and then the ball was sent up the other end for Katonia who ran onto the ball and started to run goal bound. However, Katonia’s run didn’t come to anything as his shot led to another comfortable save.

Chatham then got the chance of the half on the 39th minute. A perfect ball in from the right-hand side fell to Hagan who was all alone in the box, but he couldn’t convert the chance!

Referee Liam Vitoria then blew his whistle, bringing the half to an end.

Fisher got the second half underway, but Chatham stole the ball off of them and created a quick chance which almost broke the deadlock. A ball in from Pilbeam fell to Hagan who then played it across the box towards Bodkin. However, Bodkin left it, believing that there was a teammate behind him, allowing Fisher to get the ball and start a counterattack on the 47th minute.

The game then started to die out for the next 10 minutes until Chatham came up with another great chance which should’ve led to a goal on the 60th minute! A great pass found Pilbeam who had all the time in the world to set himself up to take the chance but like Hagan earlier, he couldn’t convert the chance!

Fisher then took the ball up the other end and found the back of the net! Wale Odedoyin found the back of the net after Chatham couldn’t get the ball out of the box but during the celebrations, Vitoria ruled the goal out due to handball!

The game then died out with both teams struggling to create any clear-cut chances. Fisher then managed to come up with a great chance out of thin air when Odedoyin burst down the wing. Odedoyin skillfully spun his way past Justyn Roberts but Ike Orji was able to recover and stop Odedoyin’s run on the 82nd minute.

Both teams then came alive with chances coming from every part of the pitch! Fisher almost found the net after a bit of chaos in the box on the 84th minute but it was cleared up the field and then created a chance for Chatham.  A lovely ball in fell to Paul Vines but he headed over the bar!

With four minutes added on, both teams were spurred on to try and find a late winner. Chatham thought they had got this winner when a long shot just squeezed past the post.

Liam Vitoria then blew his whistle to bring the game to an end. Scott Lindsey’s first game in charge ended in a draw but it was a well fought game with both teams looking like they could’ve possibly stolen all three points!
