Charlton Athletic v Stoke City preview

Playing their second Sky Bet Championship floodlit match in five days, Charlton Athletic host Stoke City in a Wednesday evening match.

Last Friday’s nil-nil draw with Queens Park Rangers gave the Addicks four points in two matches as Nathan Jones’ new signings in the transfer window continued to settle into their new surroundings. Charlton did everything right other than to score.

In the first half, they were dominant and could or should have been ahead by half time. Although the second period was not as one-sided, Charlton were still the better side until the closing stages when goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was called upon to make a great save.

Mid-table Stoke are seven points ahead of the Addicks having played one game more. They also come into the game off the back of a goal-less draw, earning them a point at West Bromwich Albion.

When the two teams met in the Potteries on a Tuesday night in November, Stoke had the contest all but wrapped up by half time. A disastrous start for Charlton saw them concede twice in the first five minutes with Sorba Thomas and Million Manhoef on target. Thomas added his second, and the hosts’ third, ten minutes before half time and that concluded the scoring for the evening.

Jones was without Miles Leaburn against Queens Park Rangers but is hopeful that he will be able to return for the Stoke match with the aim of his team extending their unbeaten run.
