Lee Bowyer is closing in on a deal to bring West Ham’s Josh Cullen to The Valley until January.

The 22-year-old midfielder has spent much of the past two seasons on loan at Bradford and Bolton. Cullen is an industrious player, but is not a regular scorer.

‎Bowyer was hoping to complete the deal in time for the player to take part in Thursday’s training session. Here is what he said to the SLP about Cullen:

“‎He is one we’re trying to bring in, that is where we are short at the moment – midfield.

“‎We have not really got much cover there. We are using young lads. They are doing well but it comes to a point where they need a break. We’re trying to rotate them the best we can.

“‎But when (Darren) Pratley looked tired on Tuesday night you want to get experience on to replace him. It is difficult, you don’t want to put kids on in difficult situations.

“‎Josh is definitely someone we’re interested in, for sure.”

‎Darren Pratley was running on fumes towards the end of the Peterborough game on Tuesday, and if the deal goes through, Cullen could start against Fleetwood.

Bowyer will have Igor Vetokele on the bench on Saturday, and George Lapslie is likely to return at the ‎expense of Albie Morgan.

Charlton could look something like this:

Phillips; Bauer, Bielik, Sarr; Solly, Lapslie, Aribo, Cullen, ‎Page; Taylor, Grant.

Subs: Steer, Dijksteel, Pratley,  Marshall,  ‎Morgan, Ajose, Vetokele.

‎The referee will be Anthony Coggins from Oxfordshire.

After the disappointment of Tuesday evening, Bowyer will be desperate to return to winning ways.‎
