Charlton Athletic v Bristol City preview
Charlton Athletic v Bristol City preview

Charlton are at home on three of the four Saturday’s in February.

Bristol City are the vistors this Saturday, with Cardiff coming to The Valley next week, and Reading providing the opposition on the last Saturday of the month.

Sandwiched between the Cardiff and Reading games is a trip to Fulham and a midweek journey to Preston.

With a difficult run in, the Addicks will be looking for a rich harvest of points this month. Jose Riga will think his side has a real chance against all of February’s opponents.

Rotherham travel to Bolton on Saturday, with Milton Keynes Dons away at Cardiff. The Dons also have a midweek game at stadium:mk against high flying Middlesbrough.

All these teams have tough looking games next Saturday, so Charlton have a real chance of making headway.

Indeed, if results go their way, and they beat Bristol City, the Addicks could be as high as 20th come 5.00pm on Saturday.

It has been a frantic week for player movement at The Valley, and recent arrivals, Rod Fanni and Yaya Sanogo are likely to start on the bench.

Riga is likely to keep faith with most of the team that did so well at Rotherham, though Ademola Lookman will be pressing for a starting berth.

Simon Makienok damaged his elbow when he crashed into the hoardings at the New York Stadium, but should be fit.

Riga may send this team out:

Henderson; Solly, Teixeira, Lennon, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Jackson, Bergdich; Makienok, Vetokele.

Subs: Pope, Fanni, Johnson, Poyet, Harriott, Lookman, Sanogo.

Cheshire’s Premier League referee, Mike Jones, will be the man in charge.

The Robins have won one, drawn one and lost four of their games since drawing with Charlton at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day, scoring just two goals.

The was against Middlesbrough, when City netted their winner five minutes into stoppage time.

They have added the raft of Lee Tomlin – on loan from Bournemouth – to their ranks, but failed with a £2,000,000 deadline day bid for Gillingham’s Bradley Dack.

The Addicks will be in buoyant mood after last week’s performance at Rotherham, and will be confident of ending a six match winless streak at The Valley.

It is a game they desperately need to win.
