Charlton Athletic v Birmingham City preview

Charlton are back in action on Saturday, after a two week mini break ‎due to the international fixtures.

Lee Bowyer will be hoping his team can‎ bounce back into the form they were showing prior to the break.

Injuries aside, he is unlikely to tinker with the team too much,‎ but the conundrum is the fitness of Lyle Taylor.

It was rumoured that Taylor would be out for six to eight weeks because of a knee ligament problem. Bowyer said the player flew home from international duty early as a precaution and could play against Birmingham.

It is guesswork about how serious the injury is, but Taylor hates missing games. If he is anywhere near fit he will play.

If he misses the game, it could be a sign that he will be out for several weeks.

Beram Kayal, Adam Matthews and Deji Oshilaja could be involved .

The Addicks could line-up like this:

Phillips; Solly, Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington; Field, Cullen, Gallagher, Williams; Hemed,Leko.

Subs: Amos, Matthews, Sarr, Pratley, Lapslie, Oztumer, Bonne.

Confidence is high in the camp right now, and Bowyer will expect to take all three points, though he is expecting a difficult game:

“They are solid, they try to be difficult to beat and have got players who can hurt you going the other way.

“It is going to be completely different to the way we have played so far. Other teams have come and tried to beat us, which is the opposite. They will come to be solid and they are good at set-plays. They have got a striker who is very good.

“The way they will set up is not just for us. They did it against Brentford and Swansea – difficult to beat and try and nick a goal here and there.

“They did the same at Stoke last time out. Stoke were 1-0 up but they managed to turn it around. The young lad who is 16 (Jude Bellingham) came off the bench and scored with a big deflection”We have to be careful out of possession, for sure, but I think if we do things right, move the ball correctly, then we’re going to create chances. It is whether we take them. The first goal is going to be massive.”
