Charlton recorded a comprehensive 4-0 win over Scunthorpe at The Valley on Monday.Goals from Anfernee Dijksteel – his first for the club, Joe Aribo, Igor Vetokele and Lyle Taylor saw the Addicks cruise home.

Lee Bowyer made four changes to the team beaten at Oxford. On Friday.

Ben Purrington and Naby Sarr returned to the defence at the expense of the suspended Chris Solly, and Jason Pearce, who dropped to the bench.

Albie Morgan ‎and Ivor Vetokele replaced Krtstian Bielik and Jonny Williams. There was also a place on the bench for long term injury victim, Jake Forster-Caskey.

The Iron showed some nice touches, but for a team fighting for survival, they seemed to lack intensity.

Charlton took the lead midway through the first-half. A delightful chip from Lyle Taylor picked out Anfernee Dijksteel on the right.

The young Dutchman took a touch, advanced, then crashed a shot across Jak Alnwick into the far corner.

Funso Ojo, Adam Hamill and George Thomas tried their luck for Scunthorpe, while Reeves tried a speculative shot from 30 yards ‎for the Addicks.

The game was sewn up in nine minutes in the second-half.

After 57 minutes, ‎Ben Reeves’ right-wing corner was met by Aribo’s bullet header. Six minutes later, Reeves won the ball in midfield, and moved it on to Aribo.

Aribo played the ball forward to Vetokele, who slid it past the advancing Alnwick.

The scoring was completed three minutes later when Taylor smashed home a free-kick from the edge of the left hand side of the penalty box.

The Iron had chances, but Thomas and Lee Novak squandered golden opportunities from close range, and Cullen and Sarr had opportunities to extend Charlton’s lead.

It was just the sort of game that Bowyer would have wanted at this stage of the seaon. A comfortable win, and no fresh injury concerns.
