Charlton Athletic 3-2 Fulham
Charlton qualified for the knockout stage of the Checkatrade Trophy with a game to spare at The Valley on Wednesday evening.‎

The game was played in front of the lowest post War attendance at The Valley – 741 which included 67 visiting fans.

‎Two late, late goals from the two Joes – Dodoo and Aribo – robbed Fulham of victory.

The side was pretty much as anticipated, though Jamie Mascoll was a surprise starter at left-back.

The visitors got off to the best possible start, taking the lead after just four minutes. Jon Dagur Thornsteinsson curled in a peach of a shot from just inside the left hand corner of the area to open the scoring for the Cottagers.

The Addicks drew level on the half-hour mark. Mark Marshall drove to the byline. His deep cross was headed back by Karlan Ahearne-Grant for Ben Reeves to side foot home.

Substitute, Cameron Thompson, ‎restored Fulham’s lead after 64 minutes, and shortly afterwards Karl Robinson replaced Marshall, Reeves and Jackson.

But Charlton staged‎ a grandstand finish to snatch victory right at the death.

First, debutant Jo Cummings flicked on a left-wing corner for Dodoo to head home a minute from time.

Another slick move down ‎the left won the game for the Addicks in stoppage time. Taylor Maloney played the ball through for Ahearne-Grant to cross.

Joe Aribo – wearing the captain’s armband after Jackson’s substitution – was on hand to fire the ball home.

‎Mark Marshall and Reeves played for over an hour, and will get further run outs against Truro on Sunday.

The win guarantees Charlton’s qualification for the knock out stage of the competition, and a draw against Portsmouth next Tuesday will ensure Robinson’s side top the group.

Here are the manager’s thoughts on his team’s performance:

‎”We were over the moon in the dugout because Joe (Aribo) needs to score more goals. I’ve said it a number of times that Joe has to add goals to his game.

“Bow next to me was screaming ‘Get in the box, get in the box’ and you see him react, he gets in the box and his timing is perfect to score.

“These are things that have got to be natural for his learning now. I’m so happy for Joe as I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch tonight. He showed great maturity, a presence.”
‎Robinson was also happy to see Reeves and Marshall get more game time:

“Reevesey, great goal. Marshy, showed his quality. We got the 60 minutes we needed out of them. They’ll play another 60 minutes on Sunday.”
