Charlton Athletic 3-1 Truro City

Charlton eased into the Second Round of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over Truro City at The Valley on Sunday afternoon.

Two goals from Ben Reeves, plus a strike from Mark Marshall saw the Addicks safely through. Tyler Barnes netted for the White Tigers.

Truro matched the Addicks for fitness, and endeavour. As well as the goal, the White Tigers had a Barnes effort cleared off the line, and also hit the bar.

Karl Robinson fielded a strong side that included Ben Amos, Chris Solly, Ezri Konsa, Jay Dasilva, Ricky Holmes, Ben Reeves and Mark Marshall.

‎Reeves gave Charlton the lead after 10 minutes when he finished off a move down the right with a crisp finish.

Marshall doubled the avantage after 53 minutes. His shot was deflected in.

Barnes pulled one back for Truro six minutes later, heading home a right-wing cross.

‎Reeves finished off a slick move down the left, involving Jay Dasilva and Ricky Holmes, after 71minutes to restore the Addicks’ two goal advantage.

Both sides went close in stoppage time; the White Tigers hit the bar, andit took a great save from the keeper to foil Holmes.

‎Charlton will be ball number 37 in Monday’s draw.

Robinson paid tribute to his two returning starts after the final whistle:

‎”When you see Reevesy’s first goal back, the movement was outstanding and the ball from Jay Dasilva.
Reevesy is an unreal finisher. He’s a goalscorer, he very rarely misses the target whether that be on his left foot or right foot, he’s got an amazing knack of hitting the net. It was pleasing for him to get more goals.

‎”I think people talk about ‘What are you going to do in January?’ Well the thing is, you look at these players we’ve got coming back, they’re just as important as anything we can do.

“I don’t think many people can sign better players at this level than Marshy and Ben Reeves in January. They’ve not started in a competitive league game. We’re very, very happy, we look a lot stronger with them and it keeps everybody on their toes.”
