Charlton Athletic 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Charlton won an open, entertaining game against Doncaster at The Valley on Saturday afternoon, thanks to first-half goals from Joe Aribo and Karlan Grant.

Lee Bowyer reverted to the side that served him so well against Barnsley. Lyle Taylor was fit enough to play, though he was withdrawn just past the hour mark.

Jamie Ward played the whole 90 minutes, and Naby Sarr came on for the last few minutes, allowing Chris Solly to return to the right.

The game started brightly‎ with the visitors having the better of the early exchanges.

But it was the Addicks who took the lead after 18 minutes. Josh Cullen swung in a dangerous corner from the left, and Doncaster could only scramble it onto their own bar.

Aribo was quickest to ‎react, and he stabbed the ball home from inside the six-yard area.

Charlton doubled their lead fifteen minutes later, when Grant finished off a sublime move.

Ben Reeves played the ball to Taylor, who delivered an inch perfe‎ct ball in for Grant to glance home. Rovers keeper, Marko Marosi, may have felt he could have done better.

On the stroke of half-time, Ward struck the post with a free-kick.

There was no further scoring‎ after the interval, but Ward, Aribo, Taylor and Vetokele all had chances for the Addicks. The best chances for the vistors fell to Ben Whiteman and substitute, Alfie May.

It was a well deserved and much needed three points, but Bowyer will have much to ponder before playing Walsall on Tuesday. He may need to give one or two of his senior players a breather, but he will want to keep the momentum going.
