Rovers gained revenge for Charlton’s win at Ewood Park in October with a 3-1 win at The Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Valley

The away end was awash with blue and white scarves, a gift given to the travelling fans by Blackburn as they entered the ground.

Simon Church made way for Astrit Ajdarevic, in an otherwise unchanged team from the one that performed so heroically at Hillsborough on Monday.

Midway through the opening period, Jordan Rhodes had a one-on-one opportunity with Ben Hamer but headed narrowly wide.

The let off was short lived though. Two minutes later a ball from Callum Harriott was intercepted and returned for Rudy Gestede to beat Hamer at the near post.

Just before the half-hour mark, an acrobatic overhead effort from Ajdarevic flew narrowly wide with Paul Robinson beaten.

The Addicks spurned a glorious chance to equalise five minutes before the interval. Sordell was felled in the area and got up to take the penalty himself.

Monday’s hat-trick hero fired straight down the middle and his shot was saved by Robinson.

There was a flurry of activity at the start of the second period. First, Grant Hanley headed home a Craig Conway free-kick after 51 minutes.

Then, three minutes later, Sordell halved the arrears with a fine effort from the edge of the area.

Charlton pressed but their fate was sealed when Jordan Cousins gave the ball away in midfield.

Joshua King broke free down the left and fed Rhodes, whose efort was blocked on the line by Dorian Dervite. Unfortunately for the Addicks, Tom Cairney was on hand to steer the rebound home.

Both sides had further chances to score. Gestede hit the bar for Rovers and Morgan Fox tested Robinson with a long range effort but the visitors saw the game out without mishap.

Charlton fans will be hoping their team beat Watford on Tuesday to avoid a nervy last game at Blackpool next week.
