There was stalemate at the Valley when Charlton Athletic hosted Queen Park Rangers in a Sky Bet Division Championship televised match.

When the two teams met at Charlton back in February neither side was able to get on the scoreline, and it was the same again when they tried again on a much milder Wednesday evening.

After a bright start in which Miles Leaburn headed wide from a Karlan Grant corner, the Addicks were forced to defend, and that they did very well as the visitors probed without making clear cut chances. Nicolas Madsen hit a shot for the Rangers that took a massive deflection and went out for the first of their eight first half corners.

Harvey Vale shot just wide for the visitors but despite their territorial advantage, they struggled to create chances against a determined back four.

As the first period moved into the latter stages Charlton’s Oliver Skipp threaded a beautiful pass through to Tyreece Campbell and he finished with aplomb. Sadly for the noisy home supporters, the assistant referee decreed controversially, that he had set off just too early and raised his flag for offside.

Arthur Okonkwo, Charlton’s goalkeeper, did well to smother a flick by Rumarn Burrell then Tyler Bindon had the last effort in the first forty-five minutes but the Charlton centre half hit it over after Leaburn had laid it back to him.

Just after the hour mark, the visitors had a great chance when a sloppy pass was intercepted by Paul Smyth and he bore down on goal with just Okonkwo to beat. The Charlton goalkeeper got his angles right and blocked the attempted slot with his feet.

Madsen shot wide of the near post at one end then, as the match moved into the last quarter of an hour Oliver Skipp skewed his shot wide at the other after Campbell’s dangerous cross was headed out.

Bindon was unable to divert a deep free kick on target then, in stoppage time, Rangers’ centre back Ronnie Edwards summed up the evening with a shot from thirty-five yards that sailed high over the bar.
