Charlton Ath v Reading preview

FA Cup semi-finalists Reading are the visitors at The Valley on Saturday.

The Royals have had a disappointing league season and parted company with manager, Nigel Adkins, in December.

The experienced Steve Clarke came in and steadied the ship, inspiring the cup run.

The Addicks will be hoping Clarke’s team are distracted by their impending Wembley visit and that it will effect their league form.

Guy Luzon has seen his team win six of their last eight games and he will be looking for a strong end to the season.

This is the time of the season when most players are carrying a knock of some kind or another. Luzon has been rotating his squad of recent times to deal with this and will again have some decisions to make.

Stephen Henderson will continue in goal with full-backs Chris Solly – possibly a surprise inclusion on Tuesday – and Morgan Fox in front of him.

Ben Tal Haim was rested at Blackpool but could return at the expense of Joe Gomez. The vocal Roger Johnson will probably be his partner.

Yoni Buyens and Frederic Bulot came on from the bench at Bloomfield Road after being replaced by Alou Diarra and Chris Eagles. Luzon will have to make a decision on which two of the quartet start.

Johann Gudmundsson has been a revelation this season and scored with another spectacular free-kick at Blackpool. He is likely to start again, along with Jordan Cousins.

Igor Vetokele was rested on Tuesday but will probably return for this match. The heavy Bloomfield Road pitch took its toll on Tony Watt and Luzon may give the young Scot a breather.

Simon Church scored one goal and created another on Tuesday and could get another rare start.

Luzon’s team may look something like this:

Henderson; Solly, Ben Haim, Johnson, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Buyens, Eagles; Church, Vetokele.

Subs: Dmitrovic, Gomez, Bikey, Diarra, Bulot, Lepoint, Watt.

Cambridgeshire’s Darren Deadman will be the referee.

The disappointing game against Blackburn apart, Charlton have been in fine form recently and will fancy their chances of getting another good result.
