Charlton Ath v Brighton & HA preview

Brighton will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins in London under new manager, Chris Hughton, at The Valley on Saturday.

The Valley3

Hughton guided his team to a 2-0 win at Fulham in his first match in charge and last week, the Seagulls beat Brentford 2-0 in the FA Cup at Griffin Park.

Rumours earlier in the week that Charlton would have a new man at the helm for the game have proved false. The Addicks have won just two of their last fifteen games and will be desperate to take three points on Saturday.

Bob Peeters will be boosted by new arrivals, Tony Watt and Marko Dmitrovic, though he will be without suspended duo, Callum Harriott and Yoni Buyens.

That win at Fulham was only the second away league game that Brighton have won this season, they have lost five and drawn five of their other ten games on the road.

Dale Stephens will not be making a return to The Valley, he is a long term injury victim and has not featured for the Seagulls this season.

Stephen Henderson is still some way from being available and both Nick Pope and Dillon Phillips are on loan with Bury and Bishop’s Stortford respectively. Neil Etheridge is likely to continue in goal with Dmitrovic on the bench.

Chris Solly will return to the defence and Tal Ben Haim and Andre Bikey will continue with their partnership in the middle. Morgan Fox returned for the Blackburn game but Peeters may prefer Joe Gomez for this game.

With Buyens suspended, Peeters will have to find a new partner for Johnnie Jackson in the engine room. Returning Jordan Cousins to his natural position in the middle may be the head coach’s preferred option.

Lawrie Wilson could come in on the right with Johann Gudmundsson switching to the left, but Frederic Bulot coming in on the left as a straight replacement for Cousins is a more likely option.

Igor Vetokele got a much needed rest last week but will probably return for this game. Peeters has hinted that Watt may start.

Charlton could field this team:

Etheridge; Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey, Gomez; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Jackson, Bulot; Vetokele, Watt.

Subs: Dmitrovic, Fox, Thomas, Wilson, Church, Pigott, Ahearne-Grant.

Wilshire based Premier League whistler, Lee Probert, will be the man in charge.

The Addicks will hope that Watt makes an immediate impact but the visitors have reacted well to Hughton’s appointment. It would be no surprise if The Valley witnessed another stalemate.
