In one of those ironies that football throws up, Doncaster who were leading 3-1 when the original match was abandoned, lost the rescheduled game 2-0.The Valley

Chris Powell replaced Bradley Pritchard with Yann Kermorgant from the side that was beaten at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Powell was forced into another change, when Ben Hamer was injured in the pre-match warm-up. Ben Alnwick took Hamer’s place and Charlton went without a back up keeper, Joe Pigott taking Alnwick’s place on the bench.

Young Harry Doherty was at the match, as was Brad Friedl, a pity the American could not be used for bench duties!

The Addicks started with plenty of attacking intent and Simon Church spurned a glorious early chance from close in.

Charlton created two great chances just past the midway point of the half. Dale Stephens stepped over a cross and Kermorgant hit the inside of the post.

A minute later, Stephens dummied again and Ross Turnbull turned aside Johnnie Jackson’s ferocious drive.

The hosts finally broke the deadlock six minutes before the interval with a wonderful strike from Stephens. The midfielder volleyed a dropping ball into the top right-hand corner of Turnbull’s goal.

Church sealed the points on the hour mark when a fine through ball from the left by Jackson, sent him clear. The striker kept his composure to slot home just inside Turnbull’s right-hand post.

Charlton had  chances to extend their lead. Cameron Stewart hit the bar from outside the area but the ball bounced clear.

Then Stephens took advantage of a defensive slip to test Turnbull. The rebound fell kindly for Church but the striker tripped as he swivelled to shoot.

The Addicks saw the game out without serious problem to take three much needed points.
