Centre half signs for Gills

Gillingham have this afternoon added strong centre-back Christian Maghoma who was previously on the books at Spurs.

The 22-year-old has this afternoon put pen to paper on a contract at the Priestfield this afternoon and will join up with the squad immediately, and be part of the upcoming training camp in the UK.

The Congolese defender will be asses the player before deciding whether to include him in the squad for the friendly against Leyton Orient at the weekend.

He has most recently been plying his trade in Poland for Arka Gdynia, and won the Polish Super Cup with them whilst competing in the Polish Premier League as well.

Gills boss Steve Evans was delighted with the signing, speaking to the official website, he said: “Christian is a big powerful, no nonsense central defender. We have had to be patient to land his talents and I am grateful to Chairman Paul Scally for working hard to get him here.

“We will let the lad settle in and we will go from there. It takes our first-team squad numbers to 17 players so we are getting closer to the numbers we will start the season with. A small but talented squad.”

The player himself was also pleased to have signed for the Gills, he added: “I know the size of the club and where it wants to go in the future and everyone in the building has been so welcoming.

“I just want to play; I love Football and have been playing since I was eight. I’m tough, I won’t let people get past me easily and I love to talk and be a leader.”
