Cardiff City v Charlton Athletic preview

Charlton‎ play the third and most difficult mini league match so far when they visit Cardiff on Tuesday evening.

The Addicks’ next match is the eagerly awaited local derby with Millwall on Friday – so the last thing Lee Bowyer wanted was a long journey three days before.

The relentless slog of playing every three or four days until the end of the season will take its toll on all teams, and managers will have to make full use of their squads and the five permitted substitutes.

Tuesday’s game, along with next Tuesday’s trip to Brentford, and the last game of the season at Leeds, will be the Charlton’s toughest tests.

Bowyer had the rare luxury of being able to name an unchanged team against QPR on Saturday, but he is unlikely to do so again in Cardiff.

Alfie Doughty, Andre Green, Ben Purrington and Naby Sarr are amongst those who will be pushing for a start in Wales.

The man in the middle will be Stephen Martin.

The Bluebirds currently occupy the last play-off spot  ‎with a clutch of clubs – including South Wales rivals Swansea – breathing down their neck.

If the Addicks take anything from this game it will be a real bonus.
