Canterbury Harriers trio off to ITU
Canterbury Harriers trio off to ITU

As a result from their great performances last year, 3 Canterbury Harriers will be going to the ITU (International Triathlon Union) Multi sport festival in Denmark between 9th July to the 14th.

Yiannis Christodoulou and Simon Jones pre-qualified as Yiannis was 5th and Simon was 10th last year in their races in Canada. Yiannis Is also the Team Captain for his Age Group team.

Simon Jones – ITU (International Triathlon Union) Aquathlon World Championships Fyn, Denmark 12 July 2018

I will be competing in the Aquathlon Age Group World Championships in the 40-45 Age Group; this is the second year I have competed in the World Championships. Last year I finished 10th so my aim this year is to improve on that position.  I have been focussing more on my swimming this year, as this is where I have given time away in the past, managing 4 swims a week in the pool over the winter and now summer is here I have managed to start getting in some outdoor lake swimming which is more fun than being in a pool.

I have also continued to try and run as much as possible with a greater focus on shorter races (5-10k) to ensure I can maintain pace of the 5k run distance.

Yiannis Christodoulou – ITU (International Triathlon Union) Aquathlon World Championships Fyn, Denmark 12 July 2018

I am very proud to have been selected as the Team Captain for my Age Group 35-39.  This will be my third World Championships and experience is key.  My target this season will be to place in the top 10 like I did last year and if possible, closer to the podium.

I have been working hard throughout the winter on my swimming and my running. I have seen some improvements over the winter and I am hoping to go in to this in the best shape I have been.

I am also GB Team Captain for 30-39 Men.

Dave Bowden – ITU Long Distance Triathlon Fyn, Denmark 14 July 2018

Dave is delighted to be representing Great Britain at both the World and European Long Distance Triathlon Championships in Denmark and Spain.

The races consist of a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle followed by a 42.2km run (marathon). Dave has been struggling with a succession of injuries in training but remains hopeful of strong performances in both races.

Peter Yarlett – Canterbury Harriers Chairman

On behalf of Canterbury Harriers, and the Committee, we are very proud to have members of the club representing GB at various international races and we wish them all the best of luck!
