Reigning Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Andrew Jordan will be heading to Lydden Hill this season.

It has been confirmed that Jordan will take part in the British round of the newly launched FIA World Rallycross Championship.

In 2013, Jordan beat no fewer than four past champions to lift the coveted Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship crown, the top title in UK motor sport. While the 24-year-old’s main focus for 2014 will be defending his BTCC title with Pirtek Racing, he will also be joining an all-star line-up as the thrills of World Championship rallycross come to Britain for the very first time over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

Lydden Hill circuit owner Pat Doran was delighted that Jordan has confirmed he will race at the Canterbury based track.

He said: “This is just brilliant news, we are already excited that Lydden is hosting a prestigious World Championship event for the first time in its history and now confirmation that Andrew will be competing adds even more excitement.

“We are putting tickets on sale at the end of the month and are already gearing up for a bumper crowd. For more and more reasons this is turning into a brilliant motor sport event no-one will want to miss.”

Jordan is no stranger to rallycross. While others cut their teeth racing in karts, he earned his spurs in the challenging mix of gravel and asphalt, winning the British Rallycross Supercar title in 2007. Since then he has always maintained a strong interest and puts down some of the credit for his outstanding car control, particularly in slippery conditions, to his early days competing in rallycross.

The fearsome four-wheel-drive Ford Fiesta he will race at Lydden, though, will put all his skills to the test. Prepared by the crack Olsbergs MSE team, the turbocharged rocket develops close to 600bhp and streaks from 0-60mph in just two seconds.

Andrew is keen to get back behind the wheel and see what the Fiesta can do, he said: “They are just unreal to drive. The horsepower is one thing, but the torque is phenomenal. The engine just keeps pulling and pulling until you get right into a corner. They are totally brilliant bits of kit!

As well as being bowled over by the technology, Jordan is looking forward to getting back to Lydden Hill – a venue he knows well.

“Obviously I know Lydden well as it’s the home of British rallycross,” he continued.

“I did my second ever race there in a Mini and I remember beating Pat Doran in what was my final supercar race, so I have lots of good memories. The sport now, though, is very different with World Championship status. I’m very, very excited about it!”
