Bromley vs Oxford City – Preview

After last week’s FA Cup success, Bromley are back in National League action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Oxford City at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens go into the match having only lost once in fourteen games and are unbeaten at Hayes Lane since 12th August.

Last weekend Andy Woodman’s team defeated Wealdstone 3-2 at home, having lead 3-0 at half time before letting The Stones back into the game and just seeing the tie out, which set up a first round game at home to Blackpool in November.

Michael Cheek added another goal to his tally for the campaign with the others coming from debutant Alex Kirk and the ever impressive Ben Krauhaus. The Ravens currently sit in fifth place with 26 points from 15 league games, 12 points off the leaders Chesterfield.

Andy Woodman has continued to add players to his squad, Deji Elerewe returning on loan from Charlton last week, providing excellent strength in depth across the pitch, even with injuries to Louis Dennis, Adam Marriott and Mitchel Bergkamp.

Oxford City are in their first season in Non League Football’s top flight, having been promoted via the play offs from National League South in May.

Ross Jenkins’ side are currently sitting in twentieth place with 14 points from 15 league games, their last game saw them defeat AFC Fylde 3-0 with goals from Josh Parker & two from Olly Sanderson, which ended a run of four losses. Former Gillingham player Parker has notched six goal in the league so far this season.

Bromley and City were regular opponents in their Isthmian League days, but their last meeting at Hayes Lane was back in January 2002 when Bromley won 1-0 with a goal from Mark Harris in front of a crowd of 284.

With both clubs now four steps higher in the pyramid, there’s a good chance Saturday’s attendance will be ten times that.

Over a quarter of the way into the season Bromley will be looking to maintain their place play off places, while Oxford City will be hoping to put some more space between themselves and the bottom four, which sets up this match nicely.

Tickets are available from the Bromley FC website, Adults £20, Concessions £15, Under 16’s £7, 11 years and under are free (accompanied by a paying adult).
