Bromley vs Halifax Town – Preview

Bromley return to National League action on Saturday afternoon when they entertain play off chasing Halifax Town at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens lost 2-0 away at Eastleigh last weekend and have only picked up one league win in 2024, which has saw them slip to third place in the table with 62 points from 35 league matches, five points ahead of Solihull Moors in fourth, but results in midweek saw Bromley return to second place on goal difference as most teams in the play off picture lost.

The second & third spots in the league guarantee a bye to the semi finals in the play offs and home advantage.

Following the loss to The Spitfires live on TNT Sports, manager Andy Woodman (who has been linked with the Cambridge Utd job this week) bemoaned his team’s performance in the final third, saying they lacked imagination and that his team would have learn to dig in and ‘win ugly as the season reached the business end’.

Summer signings Cole Kpekawa and Todd Miller were sent out on loan to Kidderminster Harriers last week, Defender Deji Elerewe has yet to regain fitness to make his third debut after signing on a permanent deal from Charlton last month and former Fulham centre back Idris Odatayo hasn’t featured since signing in January.

Having conceded seven goals in the last three matches, captain Byron Webster could be in line for a return from a spell the bench to help shore things up at the back and some of the other squad players who have barely featured of late may now have a chance of freshening the squad up as The Ravens look to rediscover the form of September to December, that put them in such a good position.

Halifax Town make the journey down from Yorkshire sitting in eighth with 53 points from 35 games. Manager Chris Millington has overseen a strong run of form in February, which has brought his side back into the play off picture, last Saturday they won 1-0 away at Dagenham & Redbridge with a second half goal from Andrew Oluwabori and they are now just a point behind Aldershot Town in the final play off berth.

When the sides met at The Shay in August, Halifax won 2-0 with goals from Jack Evans and Millenic Alli as The Ravens, who were a work in progress at that stage, made a poor start to their National League campaign. On Thursday night The Shaymen played away at Harrogate Railway Athletic in the West Riding County Cup losing 4-0.

This game between Bromley & Halifax looks set to be a close and entertaining encounter with both sides needing a win to improve their standings heading in to the vital last two months of the regular season where every result counts.
