Bromley vs Chippenham Town – Preview

Taking a break from their National League campaign, Bromley are in FA Trophy fourth round action on Saturday when they entertain Chippenham Town at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens go into the game having drawn 0-0 away at Maidenhead Utd last weekend. The point kept Andy Woodman’s team in second place with 56 points from 28 league matches played unbeaten in seven games. The Bromley manager may use the tie to give squad players more game time, but they will also have in mind that they are only four wins from a Wembley final and a repeat of the success in May 2022.

The club confirmed in the week that midfielder Lewis Leigh had gone back to Preston at the end of his loan deal, but Birmingham City youngster Tate Campbell made a welcome return to the squad after a long injury lay off, coming on as a sub at Maidenhead last week. Ryan Jones has aslo extended his loan spell from Birstol Rovers, while Bim Pepple has gone back to Luton Town.

Chippenham make the journey across from Wiltshire sitting seventeenth in the National League South with 33 points from 26 league games, last Saturday they lost 3-2 to Hemel Hempstead, Aaron Amadi-Holloway and Alex Bray pulling the game back to 2-2 for The Bluebirds, before Hemel scored a winner in injury time.

To secure their place in the fourth round Bromley defeated Slough Town 1-0 last month thanks to an early goal from Ryan Jones, while Chippenham have won two games to progress to this stage beating Gloucester City 5-3 and Basingstoke Town 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The two sides have met previously in the FA Trophy at Hayes Lane back in November 2007 when both teams were playing a division lower than today, Bromley going through 2-1 winners. Gareth Williams & Tutu Henriques on target for The Ravens, with Kevin Halliday scoring for Chippenham. There was a crowd of 544 in attendance that day, the club will be hoping for at least double that on Saturday.
