Bromley vs Chesterfield – Preview

The top two in the National League meet this Saturday afternoon when Bromley entertain runaway leaders Chesterfield at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens currently sit in second place with 58 points from 32 games, but haven’t won a National League match since 30th December, which has seen the teams below them slowly gain ground on them and third place Barnet who have also hit some patchy form. Last weekend Andy Woodman’s progressed to the quarter finals of the FA Trophy with a 2-0 home win over NL South team Aveley, thanks to second half goals from forwards Michael Cheek and Louis Dennis. Cheek now on 16 for the campaign.

Chesterfield make the journey down from Derbyshire leading the league on 81 points from 32 matches, The Spirerites drew 2-2 at home to Ebbsfleet Utd last Saturday their goals coming from Will Grigg and Armando Dobra, but Paul Cook’s side haven’t lost in the league since Boxing Day, which has seen them put considerable daylight between themselves and the chasing pack as they look to return to the Football League. Grigg has scored 18 so far this season.

When the sides met in the reverse fixture in October Chesterfield won 2-0 with goals from former Raven Joe Quigley and Tom Naylor. The teams also met in the play off semi finals in May, The Spireites winning 3-2 in extra time against ten man Bromley, before losing the final to Notts County at Wembley Stadium.

Recent arrivals to Hayes Lane, Ashley Charles and Levi Amantchi will be available for selection again after being cup tied last week and Deji Elerewe may be closer to a return to the squad having re-joined on a permanent deal from Charlton Athletic.

With Bromley hoping to pick up some winning momentum from last week’s cup success and Chesterfield looking to make the gap at the top even bigger, this should be an enthralling and entertaining game between the National Legaue’s top two sides in front of a bumper crowd at Hayes Lane.

Tickets are available from the Bromley FC website, Adults £20, Concessions £15, Under 16’s £7, 11 years and under are free (accompanied by a paying adult).
