Bromley vs Barnet – Preview

It’s a match up between the National League’s second and third placed sides on Saturday afternoon, when Bromley entertain Barnet in the FA Trophy Quarter Final at Hayes Lane.

The Ravens go into the game sitting in third, having drawn 0-0 away at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night, which moved them on to 66 points from 37 games, five points ahead of Solihull Moors in fourth. Recent signing from Fulham, Idris Odutayo made an impressive debut at left wing back, coming in for the suspended Besart Topalloj. Andy Woodman’s team keeping their second clean sheet in a row as they look to become more solid at the back, the only note of concern being The Ravens failure to register a shot on target at the other end of the pitch.

Woodman will be without the services of Levi Amantchi and Ashley Charles who are both cup tied, while Besart Topalloj remains suspended after his red card against Halifax Town.

Barnet moved up to second place on Tuesday with a 2-0 home win over Rochdale at The Hive, Callum Stead with both of the goals for the home side, who have picked up again after losing some form in February. The win took The Bees’ points tally to 68 points from 37 league matches and moved them above Bromley in the table.

When the sides met in the National League at Hayes Lane in August, Barnet won 2-0 with goals from Danny Collinge and Nicke Kabamba in a comfortable victory for Dean Brennan’s side against a Bromley team that was still finding it’s feet. Since then both teams have been competing near the top of the table for the majority of the season.

Barnet striker Nicke Kabamba has nineteen goals for the campaign so far and Callum Stead is now on eleven, while Michel Cheek is on eighteen for Bromley continuing his consistent record of scoring since joining the club in 2019.

To reach the quarter finals Bromley have been drawn at home in every round, beating Slough Town 1-0, Chippenham Town (1-1) 4-2 on penalties and Aveley 2-0. Barnet’s path to the final eight has seen them defeat Maidstone Utd 4-0 at home, Radcliffe Borough 2-1 and Welling Utd 3-0 both on the road.

With the final at Wembley Stadium just two wins away, both teams will be looking to progress and also score a psychological blow over their play off promotion rivals, before they meet again in the National League at Barnet in April.
