Bromley v Notts County preview

Bromley look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they entertain Notts County at Hayes Lane in the National League on Saturday afternoon

Neil Smith’s side made it eleven games without a loss last weekend when they drew 1-1 away at Eastleigh, taking the lead through a superb Luke Coulson strike. The point saw The Ravens move up to second in the table, with 23 points from 11 matches played one behind leaders Woking.

Notts County are in their first season since relegation from the Football League and look to be starting to find their feet at this level under manager Neil Ardley. Last Saturday they defeated Halifax Town 1-0 at Meadow Lane, a win which took them into thirteenth place with 14 points from 11 games played, unbeaten in three. Among the Magpies squad is right back Richard Brindley, who had a superb spell with Bromley last season after joining on a short term deal in September 2018.

The teams have never met previously, for Bromley to be hosting Notts County in a league match indicates just how much fortunes can change in the game. When County were last in the English football’s top flight back in 1991/92, (The last season before the Premier League started) Bromley were in the Isthmian League Premier Division having just been promoted from Division One. Both club’s have been through the mill since then, but Bromley have been on the rise over the last few years as County slipped out of the Football League they were founder members of back in 1888.

Smith will be hopeful that Michael Cheek is fit enough to return to the squad after picking up a facial injury when scoring his second goal against Chesterfield, the striker having already netted five goals so far this campaign making him joint top scorer with Reeco Hackett-Fairchild. On Thursday the class h also brought in forward Shawn McCoulsky on loan for a month from Forest Green Rovers.

A big crowd is expected at Hayes Lane for this one, with the local team flying matched up against famous opponents hitting form and looking to battle their way back up the pyramid.
