Bromley v Maidenhead United preview

It may be a little early in the season to talk about relegation six pointers, but on Saturday afternoon Bromley face Maidenhead Utd at Hayes Lane in the National League with both sides in need of points to avoid being in the bottom four going into the busy Christmas period of games.

Three points and three places separate The Ravens and The Magpies, with Bromley on 24 points and Maidenhead on 21 in the crowded area around the relegation zone.

Bromley won 2-1 at home to Sutton Utd in the FA Trophy last weekend, Neil Smith’s sides first win in six, while Maidenhead’s game with Oxford City twice fell foul of the weather. By coincidence The Magpies only win in the last two months came against Sutton 1-0 in the league, although that was followed up by a creditable 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet Utd.

When the two sides met at York Road in September the game finished 2-2 with two late goals from Bromley courtesy of Frankie Sutherland & George Porter grabbing an unlikely point for The Ravens who trailed 2-0 on 90 minutes.

Smith recently added three forwards to his squad in Luke Coulson, JJ Hooper and Zavon Hines, with Coulson and Hooper both making vital contributions to last Saturdays win. With Jake Goodman at the back and both Frankies Sutherland & Raymond in midfield, things looked a lot more positive for the fans, especially in the second half.

Games between Alan Devonshire’s team and Bromley are often high scoring and entertaining, with recent score lines including a 4-4, 3-2, 2-2 & 5-2, with the wins going in Maidenhead’s favour. This should be another cracking match with a lot at stake for both sides.
