Bromley v Boreham Wood preview

Bromley are back in National League action at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon when they take on fifth place Boreham Wood knowing that only a win will keep their play off chances alive.

The Ravens 3-1 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday breathed life back into their league season when it looked to have all but been extinguished with losses at Hartlepool, Solihull and Chester in recent weeks. Manager Neil Smith has called this game a ‘cup final’ in itself, with the focus having shifted somewhat to the upcoming FA Trophy Final since their semi final win over Gateshead in March prior to the wins over The Daggers and Woking last weekend.

Boreham Wood travel down from Hertfordshire in having had a great season under Luke Garrard, picking up 72 points from their 44 games played, with Bromley five places and six points behind, but they have hit some indifferent form of late. The Wood beat Chester 4-2 on Tuesday night to maintain their place in the post season places.

When the two sides met at Meadow Park in October they drew 2-2, with all the goals coming in the first half, and Saturday’s game is likely to be just as close between two teams very familiar to each other over several years including a battle for the Conference South title three years ago.

Should Bromley win on Saturday, the victory could have as big an impact on the club’s future as the league win over Boreham Wood did back in April 2015.
