Bromley v AFC Wimbledon preview

Bromley play their final EFL Trophy Southern Group E match at home to old rivals AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night knowing that a win will take them through to the knock out stages.

Bromley go into the game having won 2-0 at Colchester Utd on Saturday, Michael Cheek and Omar Sowunmi with the second half goals for The Ravens, a win that takes Andy Woodman’s side up to ninth in the League Two table with 24 points from 15 matches, just two points off the play off places.

AFC Wimbledon currently sit seventh in League One with 25 points from 15 games, on Saturday The Dons lost 5-0 away at Peterborough Utd, the third consecutive defeat in all competitions for Jonny Jackson’s men.

So far in the EFL Trophy Bromley have drawn with Crystal Palace U21s before winning on penalties and lost away at Stevenage, giving them 2 points.

While Wimbledon have won once against Crystal Palace and lost to Stevenage leaving them on 3 points. With Stevenage already having won the group, the second qualification place is between Bromley and The Dons.

The Ravens having a better goal difference, which means a draw and a penalty shootout win would also put them through.

The sides met three times last season with Bromley completing the double in League Two, while Wimbledon took the honours in the League Cup, The Dons eventually winning promotion in May, and the two teams were regular opponents in their Isthmian League and National League South days in the mid 2000s.

This one looks set to be very close with both managers possibly looking to give game time to their squad players, but also with half an eye on a possible Wembley Final on the distant horizon towards the end of the season.

Ticket prices have been reduced to £15 for adults for this one and are available from the club’s official website.
