Bromley kicked out of Trophy

After reaching the FA Trophy final last season, Bromley have been thrown out of the competition this year after it was discovered they had fielded a loan player despite the letter agreeing to this not arriving at the FA on time.

The Ravens knocked old rivals Sutton Utd out of the first round in December beating them 2-1 at Hayes Lane to set up a trip to Spennymoor in the second round, but the Surrey club will now be taking Bromley’s place in the tie on 12thJanuary.

Colchester Utd striker Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, who has been with The Ravens since September, played for Neil Smith’s side in the match against Sutton, but the letter of permission from his parent club to play him didn’t arrive at the FA in time for the noon deadline on the Friday before the game.

The administrative oversight was discovered by Sutton Utd FC Secretary and reported to the FA who called a hearing and made their decision to expel Bromley on Thursday afternoon.

The club will be reimbursing Bromley supporters who had already booked travel to Spennymoor before this came to light.
