Bromley keep marching on

In a hard fought local derby played out in torrential rain Bromley came out on top against a young hard working Welling side thanks to a second half strike from emergency centre forward Jack Holland.

Welling started the game on top with Reece Harris having two efforts saved by Chris Kettings, and The Wings took the lead on 4 minutes when Michael Chambers headed home a corner at the far post with The Ravens defence static.

Bromley had a great chance to equalise when Anthony Cook crossed for Louis Dennis, but the young winger managed to miss his chance from three yards out. Welling looked far more comfortable on the ball and moved it around well, Bromley made lots of passing errors giving the ball away in midfield and putting the defence under pressure.

Sandro Semedo shot wide and George Porter saw a deft chip go just over the bar before against the run of play Bromley drew level.

Eventually keeping the ball for a spell they created an opening for Ali Fuseini who drove the ball low into the net from twenty yards.

With Sam Corne off receiving treatment for a head injury Bromley target man Alex Wall had a shot saved by Tom King, but he soon had to leave the field himself pulling up with an ankle injury.

Jack Holland went from right back to up front and The Ravens finished the half well with Louis Dennis forcing a save from King who had played on-loan for Bromley last season.

The Wings always posed a threat from set pieces and had a strong shout for a penalty when Ben Chorley appeared to push Porter in the box on the last attack of the forty five.

The second half was played out in even heavier rain and both sides struggled at first, Ricky Wellard missed a great chance to put Welling in from after a powerful run in the box, but his finish was wayward as he blazed the ball out of the ground.

After a quiet spell of play Bromley created a chance out of nothing and edged in from just after the hour. Holland broke free and latched on to a great through ball from Fuseini before coolly slotting the ball past King into the far corner of the net for 2-1.

Cook went close soon after before Welling had a strong spell of possession with Bromley sitting increasingly deeper, but managing to keep The Wings from creating any good openings.

On a quick break up field Moses Emmanuel and Cook set up Reece Prestedge who shot just wide before former Cray Wanderers striker Porter went close late on before having to go off with a hamstring injury that left the home side down to ten men for the final few minutes.

The Ravens came away with the win which was the perfect response to last Saturdays defeat at Tranmere and takes them back up to fifth, but Welling can count themselves unlucky not to have taken anything from the game.
