Bromley claim Vase Final victory

Bromley did Kent proud by securing the RFU Intermediate Vase at Twickenham on Sunday.

Bromley RFC

This was a good game as both sides wanted to play expansive rugby but because of this mistakes were made with Bromley coming out 20-10 winners against West Leeds.

West Leeds were the first to settle and began to dominate possession &=and in the 22nd minute they were awarded a penalty for a Bromley player not releasing in the tackle and up stepped Dale Breakwell who from 35 yards out slotted it through the posts for 3-0.

In the 31st minute Bromley got themselves a penalty and up stepped Tom Beaumont who slotted it over 3-3.

West Leeds had the chance to retake the lead in the 35th minute but Breakwell pushed his penalty wide of the left hand post.

Two minutes later and West Leeds got the first try of the game when Joshua Cassell on the right wing received the ball 25 yards out and he jinked past two Bromley players and touched down under the posts for 8-3, Breakwell stepped up and converted the try for 10-3.

Right on half time Breakwell had another chance to increase the lead but his penalty from 55 yards fell short and the whistle went for half time.

Bromley must have had a good talking to as they came out all guns blazing in the second half and in the 46th minute Beaumont saw his penalty from 35 yards out sail over for 10-6.

In the 59th minute it became worse for West Leeds as their kick was picked up by Tommy Scott who ran across the field before passing out to James Powell who sped past two West Leeds players and then passed to Patrick Moore who touched down to make it 10-18, Beaumont converted for 10-20.

The Final whistle went and the team from Bromley were celebrating a well deserved victory even though stern words were said at half time, but what a joy to see both sides throwing the ball around and making it a great game to watch.
