Bromley 7-1 Workington
Bromley 7-1 Workington

Bromley progressed through to the quarter final of the FA Trophy for the first time in the competitions history with a comprehensive win over an under strength Workington who were missing a number of first choice players for this replay.

The game got off to a flying start with Brandon Hanlan putting The Ravens in front after 4 minutes with a sweetly struck volley from ten yards out.

Hanlan went close again straight after, putting the ball over the bar after taking the ball past Reds keeper Aaran Taylor.

A minute later though Workington were level when Nathan Waterston curled a superb effort past David Gregory from the edge of the box finishing off a quick break up field.

From there the game flowed from end to end with both sides creating chances Louis Dennis went close twice from distance and Hanlan shot wide after good work by Tyrone Sterling, while at the other end Jordan Holt and Waterston forced a good saves from Gregory.

George Porter headed a Frankie Raymond corner wide of the far post as the half went on and had another effort saved by Taylor, while Waterston again went close as did Connor Tinnion for the visitors.

With only two minutes left in the half Bromley scored a vital goal when Dennis picked the ball up out wide on the right and sent in a dangerous looking cross that dipped in under the bar and just inside the far post to make it 2-1 at the break.

The second half was a different story, Bromley moved up a gear and Workington visibly tired after their mammoth journey south during the day.

Hanlan and Dennis combined well to set up Josh Rees who shot just wide, soon after Hanlan sent in a great cross for Porter, but he somehow headed wide from only a couple of yards out.

The third goal eventually came for The Ravens on 52 minutes when Dennis and Rees set up Porter who coolly finished this time inside the box.

With the visitors struggling to cope with the pace of the Bromley forward line Dennis made it four with a well taken goal sliding the ball past Taylor after another good build up and he then set up Luke Wanadio to make it 5-1, the winger thumping the ball in off the bar from ten yards out.

Dennis was denied his hatrick by Taylor soon after before Workington had a decent spell at the other end, but just couldn’t find a way through The Ravens defence again.

In the last ten minutes Bromley added two more goals, Sterling set up Jordan Higgs to convert the full back’s cross from close range and then on 87 minutes it was 7-1 when a Raymond free kick was headed back across goal by Roger Johnson for Jack Holland to turn the ball over the line from a couple of yards out.

Bromley are now at home to Spennymoor Town in the quarter final, but before that they take on Maidstone Utd in the National League at Hayes Lane on Saturday.

Workington now focus back on making the play offs in the Northern Premier League ruing their missed opportunity to win this tie at home last weekend.
