Bromley 3-1 Arsenal U21

Bromley picked up another pre-season win in front of a large crowd at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night as they defeated Arsenal’s Under 23 side thanks to two goals from Michael Cheek and one from Jude Arthurs.

The Ravens started the game on the front foot with Luke Coulson finding Corey Whitely who hit the side netting from a tight angle.

Playing with three center backs Bromley looked to get the ball out wide and played some very nice passing football as they pressed their young opposition.

Andy Woodman’s side took the lead on 6minutes when a defensive slip saw the ball fall to Cheek who chipped The Gunners keeper from a narrow angle just inside the box to make it 1-0.

Bromley continued to have the better of things with Marcis Sablier having a shot saved by Ovie Ejeheri who then also denied Whitely soon after.

Arsenal right back Jodi Osei-Tutu was their main threat pushing down the right and winning free kicks, but the home defence stood up to the text and the threat of the lively Giraud Hutchinson.

After a quiet spell Bromley went 2-0 up when Whitely played in Arthurs out wide and the young midfielder scored from a tight angle beating Ejeheri at his near post for 2-0 at the break.

The second half saw Arsenal start well, but The Ravens held out and then pushed again with No25 Trialist having a shot saved as he latched on to a great ball from Coulson, only for Cheek to pounce on the rebound and make it 3-0 from close range.

The Gunners rallied from that set back with Amario Cozier-Duberry hitting an unstoppable drive from range that beat Mark Cousins and went in just inside the far post for 3-1.

Coulson was once again at the heart of creative things for Bromley when he crossed for Whitely who has his header saved Hubert Graczyk in The Gunners’ goal, who then also denied Sablier soon after.

On the hour mark both sides rang the changes and the game inevitably suffered as a spectacle, Bromley trialist No25 had a shot saved and also fired wide, while Cheek had a header saved from a Couslon free kick.

Late on Arsenal had a good spell of pressure with Sablier making a great goal line clearance, then Amani Richards hit the post with a flick from a corner and Ben Cottrell was denied by the Bromley sub keeper trialist as The Ravens held out again.

The game ended in a win for Bromley as they build a side ready for the National League kick off on 21st August, playing some nice stuff. Next up they take on Crystal Palace Under 23s at Hayes Lane on Saturday.
