Bromley 2-1 Crystal Palace XI

In their first game on the new 3G pitch at Hayes Lane Bromley just edged out a young Crystal Palace side.

The club put on to launch the new pitch and they were rewarded with a big crowd despite the wet weather.

The Ravens started well with Louis Dennis and Adam Mekki causing problems for the Palace defence, after both players went close Brett Williams saw a spectacular over head kick go just over the bar as the home side looked impressive. Luke Dreher and Jordan Mutch were just off target for The Eagles before Dennis saw another effort deflected wide for a corner.

Neil Smith’s side went in front on 37minutes when Dennis again showed great footwork on the edge of the box to create space and sent a low drive past Kleton Perntreou and into the corner of the net.

Just before half time the game took a more combative turn when Dreher made a reckless challenge on Frankie Raymond, which saw The Palace player receive treatment, but go unpunished.

The second half saw Neil Smith made nine changes to the starting line up, Ben Williamson had an early shot saved before the game drifted for a spell. Just after the hour Palace started to look the better side and drew level when Giovanni McGregor finished off a slick passing move to equalise.

Andre Coker sent close soon after, Mutch had a shot saved by Oliver Pain and Levi Limeka hit the bar with a deep cross. Bromley settled after that and things evened out before a late incident saw Alan Dunne and Coker clash in midfield, which led to a scuffle between several players and eventually saw George Porter and Coker sent off for their part in the ruckus.

Then with almost the last kick of the game Williamson popped up to win the game for Bromley with a smart finish from the edge of the box to stun the large Palace contingent in attendance.

The Ravens now travel to Croydon Athletic on Monday and Greenwich Borough on Wednesday before the National League campaign kicks off next Saturday with a home game V Eastleigh.
