Bromley second pre-season game ended in a morale boosting victory for Neil Smith’s side as they just edged out a strong Charlton squad at Hayes lane on Tuesday night.

Bromley v Charlton

The Ravens got off to a bright start with Blair Turgott & George Porter looking lively, linking up well with target man Adam Cunnington.

The home side’s momentum saw them take the lead on 13 minutes when Connor Dymond crossed for Porter who scored past Stephen Henderson from ten yards via the far post.

Turgott’s pace troubled The Addicks back line every time he got the ball and eventually resulted in Chris Solly bringing him down with a crude challenge that saw several players square up to each other.

After the officials had calmed things down Turgott despatched the free kick into the net from 25 yards with an unstoppable curling effort that dipped in just under the bar.

Cunnington had a header saved by Henderson soon after, but the game drifted for the final fifteen minutes with the only efforts of note falling to Charlotn’s new striker Nicky Ajose who put one effort wide and had another saved by Alan Julian.

The second half saw mass changes on both teams and the game suffered for it as a spectacle, Emmanuel Sonupe had a shot saved by Julian early on and Cunnington headed wide for The Ravens, but too often play was broken up.

The Addicks posed the greater threat going forward, but Bromley’s defence coped well with the pressure right up until the 69th minute when the visitors pulled one back.

A deep corner from the left was superbly volleyed home by Brandon Hanlan from just inside the box giving Julian no chance.

From that point the game drifted again, Bradley Goldberg looked lively for Bromley, but the only one effort of note was a tame Charlton free kick that was saved by sub keeper Joe Taylor late on.

Bromley take on Millwall next at Hayes Lane on Saturday hoping to build on a very promising display from Neil Smith’s new look squad.
