Bromley 1-2 Yeovil Town

Bromley suffered their second consecutive home defeat on Tuesday night at Hayes Lane when they were battled out of the game by a Yeovil Town side who recorded their first league win of the season.

With Chris Bush out, Korey Roberts moved to left back and Jack Holland returned at centre back in a 4-4-2 formation.

After an open start Yeovil started to press with a series of set pieces from corners and Charlie Lee’s long throws, which they eventually took the lead from on 7 minutes when a corner was turned goal wards by Abi Skendi and prodded over the line by Rhys Murphy.

As in the FA Cup match last month Bromley struggled to cope with Joe Quigley and Murphy up front and were out muscled in midfield. The first chance for The Ravens came when a Joe Kizzi free kick was headed over by Holland on a rare attack.

The Glovers did still have the better of things with Dan Leadbitter sending in a cross shot that just dropped on the roof of the net, while Matt Warburton’s free kick was well saved by Mark Cousins low down at the near post.

For Bromley Kizzi was again the provider of an excellent cross that Michael Cheek headed into the side netting from a tight angle, but it was the visitors who extended their lead right on half time when Carl Dickinson sent in a free kick from the left for Quigley to powerfully head home from six yards out.

Bromley started the second half with a little more pace and purpose with Luke Coulson and Cheek setting up Reeco Hackett whose goal bound effort was blocked and scrambled way for a corner.

Hackett had a looping effort saved by Adam Smith and eventually with the introduction of Frankie Raymond at left back The Ravens got back into things when Hackett sent in a great ball for Cheek who converted at the far post to make it 1-2 on 69 minutes.

Darren Sarl then made two changes and shored things up at the back for Yeovil as they sat deeper and defended in numbers.

Bromley huffed and puffed, but there was no way through for Neil Smith’s side. In injury time The Glovers could have made it three, but after Skendi set up Quigley the big Irish forward was denied by Cousins low down to his left.

Yeovil were worthy winners over twice playing with intensity and strength against a strangely flat Bromley who will now be looking to bounce back on Saturday away at Solihull Moors.
