Bromley 1-2 Welling United

In a hard fought local derby on a heavy pitch it was two former Bromley players came back to haunt The Ravens as Welling progressed through to the next round of the FA Trophy with two spectacular long range goals.

The game started in open attacking fashion, Christian Nannetti had the first chance for Welling when he broke down the middle of the pitch and hit the angle of post and bar, before Bromley edged in front on 6 minutes.

A deep Joe Anderson free kick into the box was flicked on towards goal by Adam Cunnington and Jack Holland managed to turn it over the line with a back heel from close range.

Welling were undeterred by going behind and asked most of the attacking questions, Adam Coombes had two shots well to save by Alan Julian, the first a near post flick from a corner and the second a dipping drive from 30vyards out.

Louis Dennis had a goal ruled out for offside for the home side after good work from Blair Turgott, but it was the visitors who made the better chances when Coombes had a goalbound shot blocked by Holland and Nanneti fired over a poorly cleared corner.

The Wings pressure finally paid off on 30 minutes when Danny Waldren hit a curling 40 yard shot that sailed just inside the far post leaving Julian and his defence totally flat footed.

Bromley created one further chance late in the half when Bradley Goldberg played in Turgott, but his low effort was turn round the post by Chris Lewington.

The second half started with Welling on top again, Sam Hatton had a shot deflected wide and Harry Crawford hit a dipping effort that Julian did well to palm round for a corner.

Sean Francis headed wide from the resulting dead ball and Waldren forced another save from Julian with a powerful shot soon after.

As the game went on it became more open and stretched and Bromley finally created some chances with Dennis setting up Goldberg who turned in the box and fired wide.

Lee Minshull hit a volley over the bar and Turgott saw a long range effort sail just wide of the post, but The Ravens failed to test Lewington and were made to pay with only seven minutes left.

A clumsy foul by Cunnington gave The Wings a free kick 25 yards from goal and Coombes hit a superb dead ball over the wall, which then dipped just under the bar and went crashing into the back of the net.

It was a goal worthy of winning any game and despite some late Bromley pressure it would prove to be the winner in this one.

Welling now progress to the third round of the FA Trophy and look to take this form and fine performance on into their league campaign, while Bromley must look to somehow pick up their threadbare squad and prepare for the trip to Dagenham & Redbridge next week.
