Bromley exited the League Cup on penalties follwoing a thoroughly entertaining cup tie against League One Wycombe Wanderers at Hayes Lane on Tuesday night. 

In a match up of two contrasting syles, with The Ravens direct play and Wycombe playing out from the back with a possession based phylosophy, the game saw Bromley start brightly, but on their first attack Wycombe took the lead.

Caolan Boyd-Munce broke down teh left and crossed for Magnus Westergaard who headed home from ten yards out, having been afforded space an time in the area.

From there Marcus Ifill set up Marcis Dinanga who headed wide as Bromley had a good spell, Jude Arthurs and Nike Kabamba both having efforts saved by Will Norris in the Chairboys Goal.

The home sides’ pressure finally paid off on 35 minutes when a set piece came ot to Arthurs who crashed the ball home off the bar from the edge of the box to make it 1-1 in spectacular fashion.

From there Wycombe responded with Ewan Henderson having a shot saved by Sam Long after agreat wotk from Junior Quitirna who caused Bromley problems all game with his skill and pace.  

The second half got off to a lively start, with play going from end to end. Junior shot wide for Wycombe, while Ifill’s strong run into the area ended with a corner for Bromley.

From the resulting corner Omar Sowunmi and two Wycombe players in James Tilley and Dan Casey sustained head injuries and had to have treatment.

On the hour Andy Woodman made four changes to his side as he looked to shake things up with Crystal Palace loanee Jemiah Omolu making his debut up front alongside Michael Cheek.

Alex Lowry went close twice as Wanderers pressed again, with Tilley having one shot saved by Long and hitting the side net from the rebound.

A fantatstic Ashley Charles challemge in midfield set up Idris Odutayo for The Ravens, but his shot from the left was well saved by Norris.

Wycombe had the better of things late on, but Bromley held solid and after a frantic spell of play in injury time the game went to penalties.              

The penalties saw Cheek, Odutayo, Ifill and Cameron convert for The Ravens, but Arthurs had a penalty saved, Webster fired wide and Hondermarck struck the bar, which saw Andy Woodman’s men lose out 5-4 after seven penalties were taken by each side.       

Bromley now perpare for the visit of Harrogate Town on Saturday as they get back to League Two action, aiming to end August unbeaten in the league.
