Bromley 1-1 Wrexham

Two in form teams on the edge of the play offs battled out a draw at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon in a game that was held up for 30 minutes in the first half following a head injury to Wrexham keeper Rob Lainton.

Bromley started the game on the front foot, but their best chance saw Reeco Hackett fire a shot over the new stand behind the goal.

Both sides set up in 4-4-2 formation and looked to get the ball forward early and play from there, but just as the match was warming up an injury to the Linesman saw play held up for 5 minutes.

Then just as it got going again the major incident of the game occurred as Lainton dived at the feet of James Alabi and his headed collided with the strikers knee instantly knocking him out cold, just as the linesman flagged for offside.

Paramedics were called and both team’s medical staff attended to the stricken keeper who eventually came to and was carried off into an ambulance, chatting to the staff on his way.

Sub keeper Christian Dibble came on into the Wrexham goal and play resumed half an hour after the incident happened.

Bromley got back into action the quicker with Billy Bingham firing over before The Ravens got the breakthrough on 30 minutes when Hackett played a superb pass to Bingham whose shot was saved by Dibble, but Michael Cheek pounced on the rebound and beat two men on the line and make it 1-0.

Bromley pressed from there Joe Kizzi and Cheek combining to set up Alabi who shot over, quickly followed by Bingham who hit a half volley that just dipped over the bar.

Late in the half Wrexham rallied with a serious of corners, but The Ravens held on to their lead going into the break.

The second half was played in thick fog that drifted across a cold Hayes Lane, Bromley started the better with Luke Coulson having a free kick saved and the seeing his corner headed goal wards by Cheek only for James Horsfield to clear the ball off the line.

With The Ravens on top Kory Roberts’ powerful header found Alabi, but his shot on the turn was saved by the inspired Dibble. Coulson then played in Cheek whose powerful drive was tipped over by the sub keeper, who saved bravely at the feet of Liam Trotter soon after.

Hackett put in a great cross for Cheek who saw his header saved again by Dibble before Wrexham rallied in the final twenty minutes.

Bromley manger Neil Smith changed the shape of the side replacing Alabi with Harry Forster and The Red Dragons too the initiative.

Elliott Durrell had the visitors first shot on target on 73 minutes when he was denied by Mark Cousins, but they were level three minutes later when Paul Rutherford crossed from deep for Adi Yussuf who powerfully headed home despite Cousins getting a hand to the ball.

The Red Dragons pressed from there with Kwame Thomas playing as target man, providing a foil for others to play off him.

The game became wide open late on with Forster bringing down a long pass from Cousins and hitting a shot on the turn that was well saved by Dibble’ while at the other end Rutherford narrowly missed connecting to a cross from Thomas.

The pace was frantic and there were some half chances, but neither side could make them count.

The game ended all square with Wrexham probably the happier with their point, while Bromley will rue the missed chances they had to put the game beyond doubt in the first hour.
