Bromley 1-1 Peterborough United
Bromley 1-1 Peterborough United

Bromley began life under caretaker manager Byron Webster with a draw at home to Peterborough Utd at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon, but they came agonisingly close to three points, conceding an injury time equaliser.

The Ravens went into the game lining up 3-5-2 and they got off to a positive start, Kamil Conteh and Victor Adeboyejo going close. Harry Mills had a wayward effort for The Posh, before the home side took the lead on 10 minutes when a Jodi Jones free kick eventually fell to Michael Cheek who blasted home his first League One goal into the far corner past Alex bass.

Will Hondermarck also most made it two after a strong run into the area, but his shot from a tight angle was saved. Peterborough came into the game as the half went on, causing Bromley problems down the wings, but the home defence held up well to the test with captain George Saville making some fantastic blocks.

When Peterborough did break through Harry Leonard headed a great chance wide Mills was just off target with a free kick and Ethan Williams had a low drive well saved by Grant Smith.

The second half saw Posh continue to press, Leonard had a shot deflected wide and Bolu Shofowoke fired over. On a rare break Mitchell Pinnock found Victor Adeboyejo with a long pass, but the Bromley striker couldn’t get the ball under control and Bass gathered it. Saville put a great cross in for Nicke Kabamba, but his glancing header was brilliantly saved by Bass.

JJ McKiernan had a shot saved, before Peterborough pressed once again with a series of corners and set pieces, dominating possession of the ball. Bromley created one chance late on when Smith found Kabamba with a great long ball, but the substitute striker just couldn’t get a touch the ball as it skidded away from him.

Deep into injury time with Peterborough camped in the home side’s half, The Ravens resistance finally broke. A long pass up field was allowed to bounce by a hesitant Bromley defence and Owura Edwards found Vernon Masara down the right, who beat Smith at his near post with a powerful finish to make it 1-1 right at the death.

Bromley now have to get over the disappointment of the late goal quickly as they get ready to the midweek trip to MK Dons on Tuesday night.
