Bromley 1-1 Maidenhead United

Bromley drew their fourth National League game in a row as they shared the points with Maidenhead Utd at Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

In Andy Woodman’s 100th game in charge of the team, The Ravens lined up 4-4-2 with Charley Kendall making his first start up front, Callum Reynolds coming back in as centre back and Jude Artthurs into midfield.

The match got off to an open start with play flowing from end to end, but it was the vistotrs who had the first chance when following a free kick Charlee Adams had a shot saved by Reice Charles-Cook.

The Magpies were a real threat down the left hand side, with Ashley Nathaniel-George and Emile Acquah a real handful. Bromley came back into things as the half progressed, Corey Whitely was just off target with a curling effort from 20 yards out and Louis Dennis saw his goalbound shot blocked by Cole Kpekawa.

Both teams passed the ball round well, but the pace slowed into the half hour mark and play was broken up by numerous fouls.

Late on Kpekawa headed over from a corner for The Magpies before Whitely made a superb tackle to deny Reece Smith as he latched on to a poor pass and broke clear, then from the resulting throw on Acquah blasted wide from a tight angle as the away side finished the stronger.

The second half saw Maidenhead start on top, Adams went close with a free kick before Nathaniel-George won a corner for Alan Devonshire’s side.

From the set piece there was a scramble in the six yard box before Acquah drove the ball into the roof of the net to put The Magpies in front on 56 minutes.

On the hour mark Andy Woodman brought on Omar Sowunmu for Reynolds and Harry Forster for Kellen Fisher changing the shape of the team and solidifying things.

Nathaniel-George broke down the left and cut in past the home defence before unleashing a powerful shot from a tight angle, which Charles-Cook tipped over the bar.

Then Forster had a shot saved by Alexis Andre Jnr as Bromley rallied again and Sowunmi had a powerful drive from range palmed away by Andre Jnr.

With Nathaniel-George’s substitution Maidenhead handed the initiative to Bromley and they seized the opportunity.

With eight minutes left a long throw from Webster came out to Louis Dennis on the edge of the area and he scored low into the corner of the net to make it 1-1, his sixth goal of the season.

The Ravens had the best of things from there, they had a penalty shout turned down when Kendall went down in the box and Sowunmi headed wide from a free kick.

Alan Massey made a brave block to deny Michael Cheek and Sowunmi had a header saved by Andre Jnr from a corner. Then as Bromley continued to press, Forster crossed for Dennis whose header was cleared off the line by Zico Asare.

Deep into injury time The Magpies created a lat chance, Webster fouled Shawn McCoulsky on the edge of the area and from the free kick Acquah had a header well saved by Charles-Cook to keep the score tied.

Bromley slipped to eighth in the table with this point and they now have ten days off before their trip to Altrincham on Valentine’s night.
